Our Round Rock/Central Austin office is looking for a full-time Prescription (Rx) Specialist to join the Clinical team!
The Prescription (Rx) Specialist serves as the liaison between pharmacies, patients, and their providers regarding medication refills and questions. This position processes high-volume prescription requests and well as assists with walk-in patients. The Rx Specialist will also obtain occasional prior authorizations and other pharmacy/prescription inquires.
Key Functions include but are not limited to:
- Receives, reviews, and fulfills prescription requests from patients and pharmacies, reviewing the patient file for diagnosis, labs, and other pertinent information. Seeks provider authorization as needed. Informs patients of required follow up appointments.
- Communicates to providers and patients with clarification as needed.
- Denies refills as indicated when necessary.
- Provides maintenance prescription refills and drug samples as authorized. Processes faxed refill requests.
- Processes all Rx clarification orders.
- Verifies every Rx against patient chart details for accuracy.
- Answers prescriptions phone line; returns all voicemails.
- Uploads prescription documents and logs all interactions into the electronic medical records (EMR) system. Makes appropriate dose conversions.
- Updates pharmacy information in EMR. Utilizes EMR to process refill requests.
- Relays instructions to patients that are in scope of practice.
- Assists with calls on the emergency/MD line.
- May assist with prior authorization duties.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Required:
- 2 years of prior Medical Assistant experience
Preferred:
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program; Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credentials. Prior triage, refill, or prescription experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish
The passing of a competency test at interview is required.
