Overview:
Maintains 24/7 department administrative responsibility.
Directs the efforts of the Preservation Technicians to prepare for the surgical recovery of organs and placement of kidneys on mechanical pumps. Ensures appropriate staffing levels within the department.
Responsible for recruiting, evaluating and coaching Organ Preservation staff.
Coordinates the orientation and preceptorship of newly hired staff. Performs and coordinates continuing education activities for staff based on identified staff development needs and annual competencies.
Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to organ preservation. Ensures recovery, packaging and labeling procedures are consistent with UNOS regulations.
Responsible for the adequate departmental staffing coverage. Oversees daily deployment. Evaluates organ preservation staff performance and adequacy of staffing.
Coordinates with the Donor Coordinators to verify donor information, facilitate requests of transplant surgeons and coordinate kidney delivery to the transplant centers.
Ensures that systems are in place to support preservation staff with respect to supplies, storage, sterilization and logistical needs. Maintains adequate inventory that is tracked and rotated. Assures the transportation of recovered organs to their designated destination.
Maintains appropriate relationships with outside vendors as necessary to obtain advise and updates on available equipment and supplies.
Collaborates with Hospital Development to initiate activities to educate hospital staff on organ recovery and preservation procedures.
Participates in Administrative on-call schedule for the Preservation Department. Maintains clinical skills and expertise by performing a minimum of 4 cases per month.
Initiates new Performance Improvement projects and consistent chart review to increase departmental performance.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
BS in biology or medical sciences from a college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training.
Master’s degree preferred.
Superior knowledge of human anatomy and function;
Salary Range: $86,000 -$103,150
Manages operational activities required to recover, preserve and transport donated organs from deceased donors for transplantation and/or research. Ensures that LiveOnNY policies and procedures relating to organ preservation are followed. Manages on call and daily schedule for staff to ensure adequate staffing coverage 24/7 for local donors, kidney exchanges, fly outs and imports. Provides supervision and administrative call support. Ensures pumps and supplies are sufficient to conduct daily operations. Supports and fosters the Mission, Vision and Core Values of LiveOnNY and its commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Qualifications:
Preservation Manager Qualifications
BS in biology or medical sciences from a college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training.
CPTC or CPT certification required.
Previous organ preservation experience required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Management experience preferred.
Superior knowledge of human anatomy and function;
Knowledge of the principles of critical care.
Knowledge of and ability to function in hospital operating room including sterile technique.
Sensitivity to grieving family members; good interpersonal skills.
Ability to teach, train and work as a team member.
