The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority (Trust) seeks a skilled and dynamic professional to join its staff. The program officer position has an integral role in helping the Trust team carry out its mission to improve the lives and circumstances of Trust beneficiaries.

The Trust is a leader in philanthropy in Alaska and grants approximately $25 million a year to organizations across the state. The Trust focuses all grants towards improving outcomes of Trust beneficiaries which include Alaskans experiencing mental illness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, Alzheimer’s and related dementia, and traumatic brain injuries.

This position’s portfolio will include statewide advocacy, funding, and policy development focused on ensuring Alaska has a comprehensive, integrated mental health continuum of care. Expertise or familiarity with Alaska’s systems of care serving Trust beneficiaries, including service organizations and supports and the needs of beneficiaries and families, will help a Trust program officer successfully inform policy, funding and advocacy priorities. Areas of program officer portfolio emphasis may include, but are not limited to justice involved populations, improving systems to better respond to individuals in crisis, early intervention, and home and community based services.

Additional knowledge in one or more of the Trust’s focus areas is preferred. These include: mental health, substance abuse prevention and treatment, housing, long-term services and supports, employment, and workforce development. Experience and knowledge of rural Alaska and working with culturally and ethnically diverse Alaskans is also preferred. Strong candidates must be self-motivated, have exceptional interpersonal skills and a track record of interacting with stakeholders with sensitivity and respect. A successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems with clear solutions, measure the impact of their work, be comfortable being an active part of a creative cross-functional team, show a strong growth mindset, and be excited to create positive impact in the lives of Trust beneficiaries.

Final salary will be negotiated at the time of hire and will be based upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
