Founded in 1961, Dr. Antonia Pantoja’s vision for ASPIRA was to create leadership clubs to address young people’s need for positive cultural identity, leadership skills and ensure graduation from college to pursue a career and give back to the community. ASPIRA of Illinois was established in 1968 by a group of educators to address the social and educational challenges of Puerto Rican students in Chicago. This group of educators were inspired by Dr. Antonia Pantoja’s work in New York.
Overtime, ASPIRA of Illinois has evolved into 4 charter schools and a youth center in Chicago.

ASPIRA Program Support Specialist Essential Functions:
The role of the Program Support Specialist (PSS) is to provide ongoing support for workforce development and violence prevention students. This role will work with a caseload of approximately 40 students, providing a mixture of the programs listed below. The Program Support Specialist will work alongside the ASPIRA Workforce Development Coordinator and The High School Program Coordinator to ensure successful implementation of programs. The PSS will provide guidance to students through mentorship opportunities and facilitate conversations around restorative justice. The PSS will work out of the Miguel Del Valle Youth Center and the ASPIRA Antonia Pantoja High School.
Essential Job Functions
- Facilitate mentorship conversations
- Facilitate Restorative Justice Circles
- Assist with identifying student interests for programming
- Basic student follow up to ensure students are in class and attending registered programs
- Mentoring students within the workforce development programs
- Coordinating with Youth Center and Student mentor staff
- Facilitating workforce programs through prescribed curricula weekly such as; resume building, goal setting, interviewing skills, and etc.
- Facilitating ongoing ASPIRA Leadership development clubs
- Attend workforce development programs for observations
- Complete required reporting
- Maintaining student files and documentation
- Attend necessary training and professional development
- Other programmatic duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience working with students from diverse populations
- Experience facilitating restorative justice practices
- Experience mentoring students from the ages of 16-21
- Bilingual English/ Spanish
- Able to work flexible hours
