Position Summary
Perform hands-on aggregate QC daily to maintain compliance to source QCP’s, TXDOT and project specific specifications. Demonstrate and communicate standards of excellence in the daily work assignments of assigned team, in order to meet safety and quality goals as outlined by Management. Based at the Robstown Rail Yard (3901 CR 36, Robstown, TX 78380), work will be focused on performing aggregate quality tests, maintaining lab equipment calibrations and service, data entry, document control, reporting, and communications to internal and external customers. This position will also be required to operate, maintain and repair the asphalt plant equipment, operate various pieces of plant mobile equipment when needed, and travel within the South Texas area (Gregory, Corpus Christi, and Laredo). Work with production and sales management to achieve common goals through daily interaction, effective communication and team meetings. Provide work instructions, input on employee performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions.
Requirements
- Knowledge of aggregate QC and aggregate production operations is preferred. Perform TXDOT SB101 and various aggregate tests. Familiar with or ability to become quickly familiar with aggregate and Flex Base specifications and determine product compliance.
- Attain certification of Level 1A Plant Mix Specialist within six months of beginning work.
- Effective problem solver and team-oriented decision maker. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Establish and maintain effective communications within all areas of the QC and Production departments.
- Perform regular inspections for safety, housekeeping and QC in all areas of the operations.
- Understand and apply all safety rules, regulations and procedures of mine and property as set forth by federal, state, local agencies & policies. Adhere to all company policies.
- Participate in the plant safety committee, weekly tailgate or other safety meetings.
- Encourage employees to participate in Guardian Angel activities
- Assist management in inventory surveys and stockpile qualifications, and TXDOT stockpile approvals. Assist in publication of TXDOT approved stockpile report.
- Demonstrate a positive, upbeat attitude and energy level toward teammates, peers, and customers.
- Daily use of Stonemont QC software, including statistical analysis for target or specification compliance and test reporting to customers.
- Responsible for maintaining quality of all products, including immediate notification of non-compliances and proposed solutions.
- Maintain housekeeping and safe, clean laboratory work areas.
- Assist with and recommend equipment repairs or testing needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor (QC Manager or QC Leadperson).
Minimum Education and Experience
- Prefer minimum 3 years aggregate testing experience or construction inspection and related materials testing.
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory or leadership experience.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must have a valid TX driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Effective coordination and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Understand team-based management, especially with team and individual safety.
- Self-starter with initiative and ability to work safely with limited supervision.
- Previous aggregate or construction materials QC experienced is preferred.
- Ability to service multiple projects simultaneously, often with changes in priorities.
- Ability to travel safely by company vehicle or other commercial means, overnight at times.
- Must be able to work some weekends (generally 1-2/month) as required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform duties in a consistent, safe manner. This job requires the ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection and other required PPE.
- Must have hand-eye coordination, balance, and ability to safely collect and process samples.
- Must be able to climb stairs to a height of 50 ft. and work at this height
- Must be able to follow company Basic Safety Rules, MSHA and OSHA requirements, and other policies regarding safety.
- Ability to operate hand-held radio, computer and lab equipment as required.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around all areas of equipment always utilizing 3 points of contact.
- Lift up to 60 lbs.
- Must be able to walk across steep/rough terrain.
- Ability to use hand tools such as shovels, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Labs are typically air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dBs.
