GENERAL INFORMATION
Position Title: R&D Engineer / Senior R&D Engineer

Department: R&D

Reports to: Senior Director R&D

FLSA Status:Exempt
Description
Mavericks Endo is a newly formed medical device start-up created out of The Foundry, the Bay Area’s premier medical technology incubator. Mavericks Endo is developing a cardiovascular implant to be delivered by a catheter to address significant unmet clinical needs.

Mavericks Endo is seeking an R&D Engineer / Senior R&D Engineer to advance the development of a catheter-based delivery system. This engineer will be key to the development of the delivery system including handle mechanism with respect to product design and assembly methods.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design multiple catheter components for an implant delivery system
  • Prototype delivery systems evolving to definition of manufacturing method
  • Present the utility of prototypes to physicians and other other stakeholders for evaluation
  • Integrate design and fabrication of user-friendly handle into the delivery system
  • Partner and manage external vendors for catheter components
  • Conduct component level and full system characterization and performance testing
  • Support builds for pre-clinical testing
  • Develop test protocols and reports for verification and validation evaluations
  • Partner as a technical resource for other engineers and technicians
  • Design and develop products in full compliance with the Company’s Design Control requirements
  • Effectively communicate technical ideas, problems, and solutions to various team members
  • Provide regular progress updates of key initiatives and issues to the organization
  • Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention disclosures and patent applications
  • Support company goals and objectives, policies and procedures, GMP, ISO, and FDA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering with 5+ years in medical device development, preferably with some experience in a start-up environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in developing catheter-based vascular/cardiovascular implant delivery systems
  • Experience in managing workflow with other engineers or technicians
  • Strong understanding of engineering materials, component selection, and design for manufacturability
  • Strong understanding of mechanisms, especially within catheter and catheter handle environments
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while advancing multiple projects
  • Operate withing a team and independently while maintaining flexibility to changing requirements
