Organization and Position Summary
Shrub Oak International School is the new benchmark in autism education. We are a private day and boarding school in northern Westchester County, serving the needs of an international coed population of children, adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum. Our Registered Behavioral Technician will work closely and integrally with our education, clinical and student life staff, as well as administration, to support our mission, policies and approaches and our student.
Essential Functions
- Assist as appropriate in implementing students' educational, functional and behavior support plans, allowing them to meet their developmental goals.
- Encourage, engage and support students in the classroom, on campus, and other school and community settings to maintain a positive environment that is conductive for learning and cooperation
- Assist students in the development and maintenance of appropriate social behaviors, work with staff to implement appropriate behavioral supports and positive learning strategies in accordance with the students' developmental plans
- Assist students with daily living activities
- Support other department responsibilities as needed and determined
Experience and qualifications
- Experience as a Registered Behavioral Technician
- Experience working with adolescents on the Autism spectrum and with development disabilities
- A valid NY Driver’s License is preferred
- Remain flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor
- Have a strong passion for working with and helping students and young adults with special needs to make a difference in their lives
- Ability to follow directions and behavioral plans
- Excellent communication skills and ability to creatively work with students to meet their needs/goals
- Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities with respect for the student and integrity
- Ability to follow rules, and procedures, and to collaborate as needed and required
Work Environment
Participate and work in all areas of the campus, indoors, outdoors.
Physical Demands
Significant and frequent amounts of running, walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing required. Frequent planned, outside activities causing exposure to sunlight and heat. Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. Good manual dexterity. Ability to move quickly and on a moments notice to support our students should the need arise.
Hours/Shifts: Days, afternoon/evening and weekend
