Job Description:
The Registered Nurse is an integral part of the health care team at Health Services that serves more than 80% of the diverse student population at Brown. The RN provides nursing care to students, administers medications and injections, performs ancillary testing and nursing procedures as indicated and provides patient education. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for providing triage to patients who present or call Health Services for assessment, treatment and/or advice.
Brown Health Services offers comprehensive primary care services to more than 9,500 students, providing over 32,000 annual visits. Services available on-site include primary and urgent medical care, laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy and immunizations. Other departments reporting to Health and Wellness include BWell Health Promotion, Counseling and Psychological Services, Emergency Medical Services and Student and Accessibility Services.
This is a 0.83 FTE position, working 4-5 days a week. Rotation to evenings and weekends is required during the academic year.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree preferred
- Valid Rhode Island RN license required
- 3-5 years of acute care nursing experience required, with a mix of ambulatory, emergency room and community health preferred
- College health / adolescent health experience preferred
- Ability to work with a diverse student population
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making skills
Job Competencies
- Experience with electronic health records
- Ability to provide culturally competent care to a diverse population required; experience working with diverse student populations preferred
