The Center for Policing Equity (CPE) is looking for a skilled Research Analyst with broad mixed methods experience and an unwavering passion for social justice issues for our Compstat for Justice Program (C4J). C4J is a CPE initiative aimed at providing comprehensive data-driven recommendations to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in support of their efforts to reduce, with the goal of eliminating, racial disparities in policing outcomes within the communities they serve.
The C4J Research Analyst is responsible for collection, analysis, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data collected from partner LEAs, the community, and other sources. Additionally, the C4J Research Analyst will contribute to the development of hypotheses, findings, and recommendations derived from these analyses. This position will report to the C4J Director of Implementation and Research Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to answer C4J research questions
- Refine questions and implementation methods for secondary data analyses, surveys, focus groups, and interviews for each city, using the C4J program strategy
- Execute on the data analyses required for the Needs Assessment phase of C4J
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure there are no errors in data collection and analyses of other team members, or the interpretation of the output
- Conduct meticulous quality control and record-keeping procedures to ensure the highest levels of data integrity
- Translate findings into recommendations, strategy, and change management practices for partner agencies to employ
- Communicate findings from secondary data analyses, surveys, focus groups, and interviews to internal and external stakeholders, including other team members, law enforcement agency leaders, and community members
- Conduct project post-mortem and lead continual process improvement for mixed methods data analysis following each C4J implementation
- Collaborate with colleagues across teams to share lessons learned and ensure strong processes for applied data analysis across the organization.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Behavioral Science or other related fields plus 3+ years professional experience collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and presenting mixed methods data, including quantitative analysis of secondary data and qualitative data from surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups
- 2+ additional years of professional experience may be substituted for Master's degree
- Some experience working with R or Python required; experience with JupyterHub, GitHub, SQL, and/or Tableau a plus
- Some experience working with analysis of qualitative data required; experience with grounded theory analytical approaches and/or use of software like Atlas.TI or NVivo a plus
- Ability to explain analysis findings in clear terms that can be understood by non-technical audiences
- Experience producing high quality slide decks, reports or interactive data visualizations to communicate findings
- Experience working with clients and managing internal and external relationships
- Comfort with collaboration across a geographically distributed team
- Experience working with geographic data and GIS shapefiles (desired, but not required)
- Candidates with experience performing multivariate and other regression techniques are encouraged to apply (desired, but not required)
