Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Richmond. Accounting for almost half of VCU’s sponsored research, the School of Medicine is internationally recognized for patient care and education.

The Department of Health Behavior and Policy is seeking a Research Assistant in support of research activities under the supervision of a faculty member, Dr. Peter Cunningham.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the coordination of research processes and documentation which may include:
  • Filing, office organization, and mailings
  • Provide administrative support to research activities which may include data entry and reviewing research materials in Microsoft Word, Excel, and REDCap
  • Assist research coordinator in drafting budgets, scheduling Zoom/telephone interviews with Medicaid healthcare providers, and supply ordering
  • Meets with research team regularly to maintain ongoing communication regarding the quality of the assistant's performance
  • Performs other related duties as required


Required Qualifications:

  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to think critically and operate from a place of sound judgment
  • Ability to be responsible with data and adhere to strict privacy and confidentiality protocols
  • Proactive personality with willingness to ask questions when unsure
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous office work or research experience preferred
  • Ability to work for 2-3 hours continuously during the workday
