Job description
The Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health's (CLAFH's) mission is to reduce health inequities and promote overall wellbeing among Latino adolescents and their families. CLAFH develops, evaluates, and disseminates family-based interventions and nurse-driven models of health care delivery designed to address the social determinants of health, reduce health disparities, increase Latino engagement in health care, and promote life opportunities. The research assistant will play an important role in contributing to the center's efforts.
Research assistants will be responsible for canvassing, recruitment, screening for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, and data collection in New York City Housing Authority buildings in the South Bronx. Research assistants will be expected to adhere to project timelines and provide routine feedback to the Project Manger regarding their recruitment and data collection efforts. In addition, research assistants will support the Project Manager and PIs in developing/adapting training protocols by identifying barriers to study enrollment, the scheduling of study activities/house visits, and data collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all IRB approved human subjects’ procedures and infection control guidelines.
- Engage in canvassing (in courtyards, lobbies, door-to-door) to introduce residents to the study and the opportunity to participate.
- Recruit and build rapport with families in Mott Haven who live in NYCHA housing.
- Screen for eligibility and obtain informed consent.
- Schedule study activities (house visits, assessments, interviews).
- Attend project trainings and team meetings.
- Provide routine feedback to Project Manager about recruitment/data collection efforts.
- Conduct surveys with families enrolled in the study.
Qualifications
- Bronx residency is preferred, but not required.
- Associates degree with related professional work experience is preferred, but not required.
- Flexible part-time schedule (including weekends) is preferred.
- Understanding the importance of cultural humility is required.
- Cultural competence in working with Latino and African American communities is preferred.
- Strong commitment to working in communities with health disparities is preferred.
- Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment, be motivated, be organized, be detail-oriented, be willing to work under the supervision of the Project Manager, and possess the necessary skills to complete tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) required
- Strong communication and rapport-building skills

Pay: $20.00 per hour
