HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results.


This position will be in support of The U.S. Military HIV Research Program. Within the Innate Immunology section, we provide bioanalytic support by measuring antibody effector function and innate immune cell responses to vaccine and natural infection. The incumbent will be part of a team of biologists, clinicians and statisticians working on a range of questions related to vaccine research focusing principally on HIV, but also SARS-CoV-2, Dengue, Ebola, or other pathogens of interest to the program.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs antibody effector function assays independently (after training).
  • Maintain cell lines for use in assays in the laboratory.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely laboratory records, sample inventories, and logs.
  • Place order of reagents for laboratory.
  • Analyze results from experiments.
  • Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision
  • Assists with the writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of flow cytometry and cell culture is a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects
  • Good communication and analytical skills.


Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Qualifications:

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree
  • Minimum of 0-2 years’ experience required
