JOB TITLE: Revenue Cycle Director
LOCATION: 2410 Susannah Street, Johnson City, TN 37601 (Office Position)
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
SUPERVISES: Department Supervisors and Staff
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Serves as Athena Revenue Cycle Management super-user and overall analyst of Revenue Cycle activity for the practice. Oversight of the practice management system with regards to revenue cycle operations, compliance with regulatory billing practices and providing accurate and timely feedback to each division regarding performance under payor contracts, accounts receivable, and other revenue cycle metrics established by Watauga Orthopaedics. This position provides insight into revenue in order to maximize cash flow and accounts receivables to ensure practice growth and profitability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, builds and creates direction for coding, billing, data collection and data processing to ensure accurate and appropriate billing is processed.
- Ensure optimal revenue cycle activity through Athena Best Practice Protocols.
- Develops and monitors performance metrics as they pertain to claims submission, revenue capture, payor performance, and payor contract compliance.
- Effectively communicates with divisional staff to optimize revenue cycle activities.
- Provides real time performance reports for each division on the status of charge posting timeliness, time of service collections, accounts receivable, denial statistics, payor timeliness, coding & documentation completion, compliance and other metrics that have an impact on revenue cycle results.
- Identifies and tracks payor performance, including trends in denials, underpayments, timeliness, and new policy implementation across divisions.
- Manage department staff, consult and coach on productivity, support employee development.
- Create innovative performance metrics to increase performance.
- Use data to predict and solve difficult payment and associated business office problems. Provides feedback and direction to help identify problems by auditing processes and problem accounts.
- Maintains current knowledge on HIPAA Privacy and Security, Medicare Fraud and Abuse, Coding Compliance and other regulatory requirements to ensure Watauga Orthopaedics remains compliant with all regulations as they relate to the revenue cycle process.
- Develops and maintains Corporate Compliance Plan for Watauga Orthopaedics, including provider documentation audits and education.
12. Maintains appropriate level of continuing education to ensure current competency and skills.
13. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree required in Business or Health Related Field. A minimum of 5 years previous revenue cycle and payor engagement experience. Previous experience in a medical facility/practice and interacting directly with physicians desired. Experience with Athena highly preferred and multi-divisional organization experience a plus. Ability to supervise and review the work of others, including coaching and providing feedback both positive and constructive. Exceptional understanding of medical billing processes, coding, compliance guidelines, Medicare fraud and abuse regulations. Ability to develop metrics and the reporting requirements of evaluating performance related to such metrics.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong Communication (both written and verbal), Exceptional presentation skills, Effective leadership/coaching. Attention to detail. Strong team player.
