Job description
The Rise Afterschool Group leader is responsible for the supervision and well-being of a group of assigned children enrolled in grades 6 month to 6 years. The Counselor will serve as an appropriate role model for the children and other staff at the site. Hours will be Monday-Friday 2 pm-5:30 pm when The Rise school is in session.
This position will do the following on a daily basis:
- Support the Coordinator as he/she operates the afterschool program, following TDFPS standards & YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas policies, procedures and Operational Promises.
- Actively engage in activities with participants including: physical activity, enrichment activity and Homework/CATCH time implementation.
- Supervise his/her group of afterschool participants at the site, and maintain health and well-being of all children enrolled.
- Help maintain and inventory supplies needed for the program.
- Under the direction of the Coordinator, will report any staff or child accident/incidents or suspected child abuse injury to the Sr. Program Director or Program Director as soon as possible. Will fill out appropriate report, make necessary phone calls, and follow all emergency procedures.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and any other meetings deemed necessary by the Coordinator, Licensed Site Director, Sr. Program Director or Program Director.
- Assist with program set-up and clean-up, so they are done correctly, neatly and meet school contracted guidelines.
- Assist with drills to practice site-evacuation/emergency procedures for fire, chemical spill, tornado, etc., and is capable of implementing such procedures.
- Complete all other site specific responsibilities determined and coordinated by the Site Director, Licensed Site Director, Sr. Program Director or Program Director.
To be successful in this position, you should meet the following requirements:
1. Minimum age:18 years of age;
2. High School Degree or higher;
3. 6 months previous experience in a licensed childcare center or complete of an 8 hour Pre-service orientation in components outlined by The Department of Family and Protective Services
4. Desire and ability to work with children and peers
5. Ability to lead and supervise participants
6. Possess the ability to lead participants in group activities, especially leading enrichment and recreational activities
7. Basic appreciation and understanding of group management and child development
8. Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
9. Ability to follow and execute schedules and activity plans.
10. Possess imagination, a sense of humor, patience, conviction, sincerity, enthusiasm, initiative, self-control, adaptability, willingness to learn, integrity, and ingenuity
11. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs for distances up to 100 yards
12. Must be able to execute all programs represented in the daily schedule
