Job description
Primary Objective: Supports production operations by operating saws while meeting or exceeding standards of quality, productivity and safety. This position works under minimal to moderate supervision.
Key Job Duties:
- Operates various types of saws to perform such operations as straight and mitering sawing.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures material, parts or assemblies prior to sawing.
- Selects sawing disk/blade according to type of cut specified on work order.
- Measures finished product to verify dimension and examines for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Replaces worn or damaged saw disks/blades using hand tools.
- Cuts metal, drills holes, sharpens, shines metals and removes all sharp edges.
- Reads and interprets technical drawings, blueprints and other specifications.
- May operate drill presses, grinders, lathes, mills, brakes, shears, etc. and a variety of hand tools.
- Uses basic mathematic skills to solve problems pertaining to sawing functions.
- Keeps sawing areas clean and performs routine maintenance as needed.
- Takes a leadership role in organizing materials, maintaining inventory levels, cycle counting, making recommendations for improvements to save time, money, and safety.
- Assist in training other saw operators.
- Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.
- Orders materials as needed.
- Participates and contributes to New England Machinery’s continuous improvement journey.
Qualifications:
Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED required
Knowledge/Skills: Basic math skills
Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement processes preferred
Experience and/or Other Requirements:
0 - 2 years experience
Must be detailed oriented
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds
