Job description

The purpose of this position is to perform clerical duties for an assigned department by processing payroll, generating numerous reports, and assisting with permits for the general public. Please note this position is for the Evidence Room Technician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative and technical support by maintaining department and employee schedules, maintaining databases, coordinating meetings and agendas, preparing project lists, making travel arrangements, editing and preparing newsletters, brochures, and basic reports, researching basic information, sorting department mail, processing payroll, and providing related support.
  • Responds to requests from the general public by providing general information or directing them to appropriate individual(s).
  • Performs basic office duties, such as copying, filing, faxing, typing standard documents, preparing, sorting, and distributing mail and entering data.
  • Assists with coordinating department activities and events, such as tracking work and change orders, relaying communications, researching information, and providing related support.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing purchase orders, vouchers, agreements, contracts, payments, petty cash disbursements, and may track fuel usage and/or sales.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory for department, recommends replenishment as needed, and determines vendor and order uniforms.
  • Prepares a variety of reports related to departmental activities and operations.

Licensing and Certifications:

  • None Required.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, vision, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.

Positions assigned to Criminal Investigations Division

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly AND/OR walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, physical hazards.

Positions assigned to Vice, Narcotics, Forensics or Property Control

  • Positions in this class are subject to more frequent drug testing due to the sensitive nature of the assignment.

Required Experience


High school diploma or equivalency, with at least five years of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
