Position Purpose:
The Senior Director, Strategy and Policy, in the office of Strategy, Policy and Government Affairs (SPGA), is responsible for helping to develop and revise the NICB Strategic Plan, as well as the organizational strategies and performance policies that are consistent and align with the Strategic Plan; and coordinating engagement and input on those strategies and policies across the entire organization. The Senior Director is responsible for assisting the Department to develop strategic programs to best align the Strategic Plan with Member priorities. The Senior Director assists in creating all internal and external-facing policy, as well as updates or revisions to existing policies; and for creating and managing processes to achieve organizational alignment on all strategies and policies. The Senior Director reports to the Vice President of SPGA.
Competencies/Duties:

  • Advise the Vice President, SPGA; General Counsel; Chief Financial Officer; Chief Operating Officer; and Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to the NICB Strategic Plan; internal and external policy matters; and organizational planning initiatives.
  • Develop, coordinate, and make recommendations for new or revised organizational strategies and performance policies that are consistent and align with the Strategic Plan; and coordinate engagement and input on those strategies and policies across the entire organization.
  • Create processes to move proposals forward and resolve conflicts across the organization as proposals are advanced before final recommendations are made to NICB Senior Leadership and/or the Board of Governors.
  • Collaborate with NICB Senior Leadership, the Board of Governors, and internal and external stakeholders to communicate internal and external strategy and performance policies with relevant stakeholders where necessary.
  • Develop strategic programs to best align the Strategic Plan with Member priorities.
  • Assist, where necessary, in internal investigation and compliance matters.
  • Lead in the creation of new strategic plans.
  • Manage projects, identify key issues, and collaborate with appropriate NICB executives where appropriate.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to inform business decisions.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in either public policy or law preferred
  • 7-10 years relevant strategy or policy experience required
  • 5 or more years of policy experience in a leadership role is preferred
  • Insurance industry experience preferred

  • Occasional contact with NICB member company representatives; insurance industry trade organizations; and regulators and government officials

  • Up to 10-25% travel possible
