SALARY: $20.34-$23.59 CLOSING: Until Filled

FULL TIME- BENEFITTED

DEFINITION

Skilled technical and manual work in construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities for sewage collection and transport; maintenance and repair of plant and equipment, and interim operation of motor equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of

• Performs skilled manual work in the construction, repair, maintenance and operation of the sewer system, including gravity mains, laterals and collectors, service connections, and manholes.
• Performs skilled manual work in the construction, repair, maintenance and operation of the storm drain system including mains and laterals, culverts, manholes and catch basins.
• Repairs sewer leaks; installs and operates related motor equipment.
• Prepares diagrams of sewer services and sewer mains for insertion in record books.
• Patches trenches and street openings after back-filling; raises manhole covers for street resurfacing.
• Maintains records of materials used on outside construction or repair projects, inventory of materials and supplies, repairs and replacements, repair and installation of sewer and drain pipes, manholes, catch basins, and related equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent; 1-3 years of related work or technical training to perform assigned duties at the journeyman level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements: Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License

Massachusetts Class 2B, 4E Hoisting Engineer’s License

OSHA 10 Certification.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS

Knowledge: Operating and maintenance procedures of department. General knowledge of the layout of the city.

Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge and experience to various departmental functions; to work effectively as a member of a crew or independently. Be on-call 24 hours per day. Read and understand maps and plans.

Skills: Skill in the operation and use of all related tools and equipment.
