Hamilton Marine is now searching for an Assistant Store Manager in Southwest Harbor!

Who we are and what we do:

Hamilton Marine is the largest marine store in New England. It was started 45 years ago in Wayne and Loraine Hamilton’s Searsport garage. Hamilton marine has grown to six locations throughout the state of Maine, with stores in Searsport, Portland, Rockland, Southwest Harbor, Jonesport and Kittery. We sell to boat builders, recreational boaters, commercial fishermen, divers, and industrial mariners.

Close to 200 people are employed among the six stores. Dress is casual, the atmosphere is friendly and family-like, and the work is diversified and demanding. Customers, who share our interest in boats and things marine, can shop in our stores, from our 376-page catalog, and through our Internet Store. Our catalog is sent all over the world.

Most job duties fall within departments: Store, Administrative and Support Operations. However, every employee has the opportunity to work in any department as well as other Hamilton Marine locations on a temporary basis. Our people go where the business needs them.

A Hamilton Marine Store Assistant Manager is the Managers right hand person and represents the Manager in their absence. They are often the communication link between the Manager and the team, responsible for upholding expectations and assisting with employee development. This person must share the company’s opinion that each of our coworkers are essential to the success of the company and work to provide an employment experience that represents our Hamilton family traditions while focusing on the needs of our customers and the business.

1. Develop and maintain strong, positive, professional relationships with their team, assist the CREW with their professional development and work to exceed the expectations of our customers through effective leadership and teamwork.

2. Provide outstanding service and a customer friendly environment that exemplifies Hamilton Marine’s core values and demonstrates our solid product knowledge.

3. Work with the Store Manager to control shrink, expenses, and payroll. Assist in scheduling, approval of employee PTO and monitoring of attendance.

4. Work with store Area Leaders to maintain appropriate merchandise back stock levels, and product assortment in all store areas to make certain selling floor is adequately stocked.

5. Supervise all aspects of the day to day operation of the HM store, oversee, and provide support in all areas as necessary to provide coverage on the sales floor, at the registers, and in support operations

6. Be proficient in the use of company operating systems and certify store employees are correctly trained on all Hamilton Marine processes applicable to working in our retail stores.

7. Insure adherence to HM policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through, inventory spot checks, etc.

8. Continually evaluate and address performance issues, and conduct disciplinary measures when necessary with the guidance of the Store Manager and the Human Resources department

Supervisory Responsibility: This position assists the Store Manager as part of a supervision team for retail sales and store support team members at their Hamilton Marine location
