JOB CLASSIFICATION: Space Science and Technology Senior and SME (2 positions total; 1 each)
JOB SUMMARY: Supports HQ US Space Command (USSPACECOM) J8 as a contract staff member responsible for supporting Science and Technology (S&T), Advanced Concepts, prototype and Joint Technical Concept Demonstration integration activities for Space. Implementing Planning and Programming guidance, Joint warfighting strategies, and doctrinal implementation at all security classification levels to USSPACECOM J8. Provide strategic planning deliverables coordination and reviews including integrated multi-domain and commercial/allied mission perspectives, integrating critical Space Superiority capabilities for contribution to DoD all-domain operations.
PRIMARY DUTY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist USSPACECOM J8 planners in the development of products supporting Science and Technology (S&T), and Advanced Concepts for operational gaps and needs identification.
- Identify and integrate Planning and Programming guidance, DoD and joint strategies, and doctrinal changes in support of USSPACECOM J8 S&T planning efforts.
- Aid in the integration of S&T and Advanced Concepts, doctrinal and policy development, and employment strategies for future space and service-presented capabilities.
- Coordinate with organizations such as Joint Staff, geographic and functional combatant commands, DoD/OSD, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Space Operations Center (SpOC), SPOs/Centers (i.e. DAF Rapid Capabilities Office, Space Rapid Capabilities Office), NRO, Service Staffs, and other US agencies and mission partners to assist in understanding the Space Forces strategic priorities and direction.
- Work with S&T agencies across the DOD and US federal government to identify possible solutions to gaps in various J8 mission sets: Electronic Warfare, Orbital Warfare, Command and Control, and Cyberspace activities.
- Research prototype and Joint Technical Capability Demonstrators for possible inclusion into Combatant Command planning, exercises, and eventual operations.
- Prepare/deliver briefings and point papers aimed at integrating and gaining planning advocacy for the Space mission including a summation of key issues and recommendations to the Government.
- Interact directly with Service staffs, Unified Commands, and defense agencies to assist in identifying and defining operational deficiencies and to integrate total force capabilities.
- Attend conferences and other technical exchanges and provide reports as required (including summations of key issues and recommendations).
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years space operations experience including: 6+ years Joint Headquarters or MAJCOM/Field Command headquarters experience
- Experience working in classified (SAP/SAR) space environment
- Experience with joint and DoD documents and Combatant Command supplements
- Deep technical background in space mission areas
- Programmatic history with space missions; familiarity with and relationships in S&T community
- Comprehension of preparation, development, review, and coordination processes with documents and deliverables across all security levels (Unclassified, Secret, TS/SCI, ACCM, SAP/SAR)
- Superior communication skills (written and oral) to include working with senior leaders
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: BS STEM degree; MA desired
SECURITY CLEARANCE: TS/SCI willing to take CI Poly
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $180,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
