About Reading Allowed

Our mission is to provide struggling readers of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay, with individualized evidence based structured literacy instruction in schools, prisons and communities, delivered by highly trained instructors. We are dedicated to promptly identifying children at risk of reading failure, providing appropriate instruction and sharing the tools to implement best practices.

We are committed to providing access to the highest quality literacy instruction regardless of financial circumstances, to combat systemic injustices. We are also dedicated to ensuring we are implementing the latest developments in the science of reading.

Reading Allowed is partnering with several schools and community organizations in the Philadelphia area for the 2022-2023 school year to provide structured literacy instruction to struggling readers in grades K-8. Based on student needs, Reading Allowed instructors provide small group or 1:1 structured literacy lessons. We are currently hiring part-time and full-time instructors with in-person and virtual options both during and after school hours.

Pay: Up to $50.00/hour

Position Responsibilities

• Work with individual or small groups of 4-6 students

• Develop skill-appropriate lesson plans

• Create and update all Reading Allowed records

• Ensure supervision of students to assure their safety

• Meet with Reading Allowed personnel, classroom teachers, principals, and parents

• Maintain inventory of teaching materials and supplies

• Other duties may be assigned

Required Experience and Skills

• A deep understanding of the Science of Reading,

• Wilson® Reading System Level I or Level II Certificate and/or Wilson® Fundations training and experience

• Must have all state mandated clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal background checks, Act 126 Certificate, FBI fingerprints, etc.)

• Proficient in MS Office, OneDrive, Zoom, etc.
