POSITION PROFILE

Assist in Managing/Controlling the flow of all materials from receipt at plant site, through production and up to the point of outbound shipment. Design and implement material flow strategies to and from production work cells in support of production operations. Provide technical expertise on design and execution systems to increase efficiency in material flow. Develop and build in standardization and accountability while continuously improving inventory levels for the site.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practical knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts
  • Experience in Managing/Controlling the flow of materials within a plant
  • Analytical thinking and good communication
  • Training or experience with Materials and Information flow
  • Data analysis and interpretation - identifying trends, variations and improvement opportunities
  • Selecting best possible solutions based on data or project forecasts
  • Track and continuously improve inventory levels for plant site
  • Space optimization and utilization recommendations
  • Assist in design of delivery/returnable carts and material movement containers
  • Utilize MRP/ERP system to develop reports, gather info, make transactions, etc
  • Make recommendations for future improvements to include additional barcode and RFID technology
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Materials Engineer. It is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.
  • Develop lean material flow strategies to deliver material to and from production work cells utilizing tools including but not limited to Standardized Work, Kaizen, Problem-Solving, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow, Heijunka, Jidoka, etc.
  • Lead/Facilitate the implementation of process improvements and changes that ensure safety, improve product quality and reduce cost
  • Provide technical and advisory support for material flow that would maximize production throughput
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability processes for new and existing products
  • Work with product development, quality, and manufacturing to implement engineering change notices


Required Skills
  • Training in Materials, Supply Chain, Logistics or similar technical field or equivalent years of on-the-job training experience.
  • Advanced skill in MS Office including: MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Projects and PowerPoint
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and translate information into actionable solutions
  • Ability to prioritize and balance the managing of multiple projects


Required Experience
  • Technical Experience: MRP/ERP/Inventory system experience. MES/MPS experience is a plus.
  • Industry Experience: 1-3 years of inventory and/or material movement experience or equivalent lengths of logistics/materials/supply chain projects. Experience with warehouse space utilization and optimization also desired.
