The surgery team leader plays a critical role in the success of the service by maintaining professional and strategic oversight.

This position is full time, 5 days per week, no scheduled weekend rotation, but requires participation in our rotating on-call schedule and holiday lottery. The surgery team lead position also requires dedication to the COVE outside of normal business hours for emergency department collaboration on surgical cases, ongoing case inquiries for established surgery patients and surgery team member schedule emergencies.

The COVE is a state of the art, privately owned, 24/7 ER and Specialty Veterinary hospital in Suffolk, VA. We are located just outside of the exceptional and inviting Harbour View area. The hospital consists of a board certified surgeon, board certified cardiologist, advanced dentistry and emergency specialty department. Role Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Provide clinical support on the floor as needed for the team*

• Run anesthesia and be able to perform analgesia techniques such as epidurals and nerve blocks*

• Demonstrate the ability to place bandages, splints, slings and care for external fixators*

• Take orthopedic specific radiographs*

• Demonstrate knowledge of surgery patient and client needs in order to provide guidance*

• Provide education to clients for post operative patient care*

• Collaborate with a boarded veterinary surgeon*

• Demonstrate attention to detail for medical record keeping*

Leadership Duties

• Collaborate with other service leads*

• Develop and conduct daily surgery rounds*

• Supervise and coordinate day-to-day client scheduling and department operations*

• Support surgery department staff to make appropriate decisions*

• Assess surgery and hospital wide needs in order to troubleshoot appropriate solutions*

• Resolve employee relation and client concerns*

• Participate in administrative and managerial duties such as efficient scheduling; and developing and enforcing policies and procedures*

• Lead monthly service meetings*
