About the role

We are looking for a Technician- Instrumented Protective Systems to support the implementation, commissioning and auditing of the Safety Critical Process Control Systems across the Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper value stream.

This role is a great opportunity for a professional who has experience in process instrumentation, industrial control systems, and process safety management to influence and communicate effectively with key stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Instrumented Protective Systems, you will be:

• Identifying defects and provide feedback on asset performance and health.
• Providing technical support to the operational teams managing the process safety risk.
• Developing, implementing and tracking critical safety verifications relating to instrumentation and process control across many different process areas.
• Implementing/Supporting the Process Safety Management program as it applies within the control system.
• Providing the technical expertise for the control system equipment across departments within Rio Tinto’s Salt Lake City facilities.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• 2+ years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician
• Experience in developing process controls narrative
• Experience re-evaluating risk assessments after mitigation
• Experience in Process Control design for PSM
• Must be able to read drawings: schematic, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, process flow drawings

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Experience in commissioning and startup of industrial control systems
• Experience in troubleshooting industrial control systems; including but not limited to trouble shooting field devices as well as control system hardware
