Position: UMatter Coordinator
Report To: Lifetown Program Director
Program Description:
Friendship Circle provides assistance and support to 3,000 individuals with special needs and their families by providing recreational, social, educational and vocational programming. In addition to helping those in need, the Friendship Circle enriches its vast network of volunteers by enabling them to reap the rewards of selfless giving. Friendship Circle also provides support to individuals and families struggling with isolation, addiction and other family-related crises.
UMatter, which operates within the Friendship Circle, is a program focused on empowering teens to shatter the stigmas surrounding mental health challenges and suicide. As a teen-driven program, UMatter relies on its teen advisory board to identify needs, create dialogue, and develop programming that addresses mental health within the community.
The role of the UMatter Coordinator is to oversee all UMatter programming. This includes UMatter mental health weeks in schools, teen-led support groups, and special events.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit middle school and high school aged participants
- Develop professional relationships with middle schools and high school administrators and teachers
- Assist schools in development, planning and organization of UMatter mental health weeks
- Plan and facilitate Teen Talks, a teen-led support group
- Plan and organize community-wide events to address mental health within the community
- Expand UMatter offerings and develop creative programming to address needs within the community
- Become a certified SafeTalk trainer
- Expand UMatter offerings and develop creative programming to address needs within the middle school and high school aged community
- Develop and introduce UMatter into professional workplace setting
- Ensure program costs are staying within established budgets.
Qualifications
This individual must have effective written and oral communication skills. Strong organization skills and the ability to work on a team are essential. This individual must be a self-starter who is eager to meet agency needs under the supervision of the Teen Director. Sunday and Evening flexibility is a must. Experience working with teens in the mental health realm is preferred.
