Underwriter Manager - Commercial Auto and Workers' Comp Lines
Job description
Maintain and manage HIC’s commercial auto underwriting liability and workers’ compensation programs; lead a team of underwriters and support staff; resolve Insurance Department complaints; and represent the Company as an underwriting witness. Rate filings, understanding data sets and analyses of underwriting results, and underwriting policy systems, regulatory compliance.
- Oversee the processing of statistical reporting.
- Oversee monthly Quality Control of new business, endorsements etc. to ensure consistency with HIC's underwriting guidelines, and addressing any and all issues found with the appropriate underwriter.
- Generate/Develop renewal reports for management to analyze producer's renewal progress, retention, Change of Brokers etc. and also sharing this data with the appropriate producer.
- Work closely within the underwriting department during pre-renewal preparation to ensure accurate and timely rating of all policies eligible for renewal and providing the necessary reports (Underwriting and Claim) needed to accomplish this task. Timely generation of Non Renewal and Conditioned Renewal notices. Generate Renewal letters in bulk for mailing (Insured and Broker).
- Ensure the payment of premiums by interacting with brokers and the accounting department.
- Act as a liaison between HIC and its appointed brokers.
- Ensure proper interactions and support among the following departments: liability claims, workers’ compensation claims, accounting, IT (including but not limited to communicating with STG to resolve issues and provide enhancements) and special investigations unit.
- Oversee the gathering of data for reinsurers reporting agencies, management and filing agencies.
- Train personnel as appropriate.
- Familiar with the industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Carrier experience and for-hire industry exposure.
- Liability and physical damage underwriting experience of 5+ years.
- Workers' Compensation underwriting experience of 5+ years.
- Strong underwriting and customer service skills.
- Experience in management of a team.
- Computer literacy.
- Provide oversight to liability and workers' compensation underwriting units.
