POSITION SUMMARY
The Furnace Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the VFS & 403 furnaces. Maintains quality of product by following proper load construction and choosing the proper furnace program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates 403 (1500lb. capacity) and VFS (4000lb. capacity) furnaces.
- Required to process intermediate and finish materials in the Cleaning / Pickle Room.
- Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintains high quality standards.
- Maintains work area in a clean and orderly way on a daily basis by following 5S standard work practices.
- Determines best loading arrangement for loads considering significant variations of size, shape and weight.
- Protects finished materials from damage at all times.
- Performs troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on furnaces, i.e. routine oil and vacuum tube changes.
- Displays a working knowledge of the vacuum system(s) currently in operation on both furnaces and knows sequence of pumping system(s).
- Incumbent is capable of aborting/re-starting annealing runs and troubleshooting process problems.
- Completes all associated paperwork NCMR and Database paperwork to assure product is clearly identified and tested.
- Accurately enters data into the VFS Database.
- Processes samples as required.
- Performs vacuum leak detection and solves routine problems.
- Operates electric fork truck.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Requires a high school or vocational school degree or equivalent.
- Three years manufacturing experience with knowledge of vacuum equipment a plus.
- Requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, experience using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, rulers, and tape measures, as well as basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
- Must adhere to strict environmental and safety rules and identify areas for improvement.
- Expected to work as part of a team, to make good decisions, to anticipate production problems, and to resolve them with some assistance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position requires direct contact on the manufacturing floor and requires ambulation Work time is spent in a factory environment where temperatures fluctuate Position requires personal protective equipment.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from approval for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
