Job Summary: Arkansas Arts Academy is seeking a seasoned Visual Art Teacher at the high school level (7th-12th grades) to offer instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced art classes in Foundational Art, 2D/3D Art, Digital Media, Ceramics and Art Appreciation/Art History.Objectives: Demonstrate ability to think creatively, be innovative, motivate and guide students to think conceptually and master technical skills required for Portfolio Development in preparation for higher education instruction and/ or a career in the visual arts.Communicate with the Visual Art Department while developing Art Curriculum and setting appropriate achievement goals for students in accordance with the (National/State Core Arts Standards).Contribute in the planning and development of a nationally recognized high school visual art program.Reports To: High School PrincipalExperience Required: Bachelors degree in Studio Art and/or certification in Art Education. Masters degree in Fine Arts preferred.Experience as a classroom visual art teacher (5+ years preferred).Diversified knowledge of various art forms: drawing, painting, printmaking, assemblage/ 3D design, calligraphy, photography, and digital arts. Knowledge of Arkansas State Standards for Visual Arts and National Standards for Arts Education.Experience in teaching AP Studio and/or AP Art History preferred.Experience in collaborating with community partnerships.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively with administration and teaching staff.Excellent classroom management skills.Experience with educational technology. Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities: Support the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Academy.Lead an exciting and motivating classroom experience for all students.Patience and approach-ability for students to feel comfortable expressing themselves freely.Ability to work with disabled and students with physical and learning disabilities.

Develop in each student an interest and ability for creative expression in visual art, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines.Develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.Plan, develop and teach a rigorous visual arts curriculum for grades 7-12.Follow curriculum guidelines established by the Academy.Maintain appropriate records and follow all required procedures and practices.Monitor and evaluate student outcomes through informal and formative assessments.Document and utilize lesson plans, student assessments and evaluations to inform teaching and learning.Coordinate field-trips, workshops and off-campus arts experiences.Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and community.Provide and promote an atmosphere and environment conducive to the development of each student.Monitor the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.Utilize positive classroom management skills to promote respect, discipline, and collaboration in both classroom and school environments.Inspire students to reach their highest potential.Maintain Student Portfolios.Actively participate in meetings, conferences and communications requested by district administration.Attend and participate in school programs (i.e. dances, graduations and parent meetings).Other duties as assigned.
