Job Title: Volunteer & Events Coordinator


Job Type: Full Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Schedule: Monday-Friday, flexible hours to allow for evenings and weekends as needed. Must be willing to work weekends and nights for fundraising and volunteer events.


Job Overview: The Volunteer & Events Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the volunteer activities within the organization and assisting with the coordination of events. The volunteer coordination duties include recruiting, interviewing, orientation, training and placing volunteers in different roles based on their qualifications. The Volunteer Coordinator maintains the volunteer database, capturing hours and activities, and actively promotes volunteer opportunities within the community. Duties for coordinating the events include assisting with requesting, accepting, recording, and responding to donations as well as tracking vendors, venues, and day of event details.


Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Develop, update, and implement a recruitment plan to attract and keep diverse groups of volunteers to assist the various RMHC- SA programs.
  • Coordinate selection, placement, and supervision of volunteers for needed times and activities.
  • Create exciting volunteer opportunities that enhance the home away from home experience for families utilizing our services
  • Interview and orient volunteers to ensure they are both appropriate for their assignment and prepared for their responsibilities. Coordinate training of volunteers with appropriate staff person.
  • Maintain volunteer database of hours and activities, mailing lists, volunteer files. Prepare statistical reports for annual reports and newsletters.
  • Responsible for the communication plan to maintain and recognize volunteers
  • Review and maintain position descriptions so volunteers fully understand their responsibilities and accountability is clear.
  • Create and deliver volunteer training for different volunteer opportunities and events
  • Attend volunteer fairs and other community recruitment events on behalf of RMHC-SA.
  • Assist in coordinating event details include: volunteers, fundraising events, holiday parties, and meetings held at the houses.
  • Work RMHC-SA events as assigned.
  • Respond to in-kind donation inquires, schedule, and communicate information with staff.
  • Communicate frequently with operations staff to be aware of House needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing & Development.


Education level: Bachelor’s Degree required or 5+ years of equivalent experience.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and execute accordingly.
  • Positive attitude, detail, and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.
  • Excellent public presentation/speaking skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication ability with successful interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with colleagues, donors, and leaders at all levels are required.
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be organized, able to accept direction.


Experience: At least 3 years of experience in customer facing and/or customer relations role. 2 years of experience in nonprofit setting preferred.


Other Requirements:
  • Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs.
  • Successfully pass local, state, and national Criminal Background Check
  • The Volunteer Coordinator must be dependable, trustworthy and conduct him/herself at all times in a manner that reflects positively to this organization.

Physical Demands
  • Sits at desk 20-30% of the day. Significant physical activity at other times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • Near visual acuity essential for reading. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing and speaking are essential for communication.
  • Able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Physically able to climb stairs and perform small maintenance tasks as needed.
