Web Developer | Marywood University | Scranton, PA
At our partner institution at Marywood University
The Web Developer is responsible for designing, coding, and modifying websites, from layout to function, in accordance with our client's business needs and specifications. Provide programming and support for our client’s web sites, portal, and web applications. Manage multiple projects and work collaboratively with functional and technical cross-functional teams, This position reports to the Enterprise Applications Manager and functionally to the client’s marketing department.
Responsibilities:
  • An active and engaged member of IT’s Application Support team
  • Collaborative engagement with the institutions marketing department and acting as their technical advocate and trusted advisor
  • Web systems technical support and programming
  • Experience building a website from the ground up
  • Provide technical support for web applications
  • Develop and maintain web sites and systems
  • Responsible for all aspects of web implementation, quality assurance, and monitoring/analyzing application performance
  • CSS development and editing
  • Graphic design and optimization for web output
  • Search engine optimization
  • Act as primary web liaison to the client
  • Integrate web software systems with other software packages
  • Monitor system availability and activity
  • Respond to user requests
  • Proactively analyze processes and recommend improvements
  • Generate thorough documentation for processes and techniques.
  • Develop effective and usable user interfaces
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in MS .Net programming (C#)
  • Programming skills including HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) web development experience (dotCMS, Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, etc.)
  • Experience optimizing websites
  • Experience with design and working with style and brand guidelines
  • Experience building custom widgets for varied content publishing purposes
  • Server configurations, web storage, and database storage solutions like JSON, SQL, and NoSQL
  • Experience with APIs (REST and SOAP)
  • A good understanding of WCAG 2.0 and what this means for the UX
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Current understanding of industry trends and software tools
  • Ability to quickly learn and accurately work with a variety of hardware/software systems
  • Interpersonal, verbal/written communication, analytical skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Organizational skills, tracking and follow-up
  • Detail oriented and a self-starter
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and/or 4-6 years of experience in the field
  • Must be able to sit and stand for hours at a time
  • Must be able to have a flexible schedule
  • Proactive and collaborative problem solver
  • Attention to detail and active ownership of quality assurance and follow through to ensure everything looks and works correctly on all relevant devices and browsers.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and in person. Able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical people.
  • Ability to think creatively and collaborate in a team environment to develop integrated solutions for front and back-end objectives.
  • Capable of learning new things, whether it's a new programming language or a new way to solve a problem. Open to change and always proactively looking for ways to improve your skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage your time and multi-task
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of version control systems like Git and GitHub
  • Understanding of laws surrounding web accessibility, including ADA, Section 508, state- or industry-specific guidelines
  • Knowledge of and ability to use WAI-ARIA where necessary
  • Experience in higher education
