TITLE: Bilingual (Spanish) Program Assistant

HOURS: Part-time position available with possibility of full-time

LOCATION: Nantucket

PROGRAM: $26.45/hour

BENEFITS: Medical, dental, holiday, paid earned leave, retirement, etc.

DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Program Assistant responsibilities will include the following:

  • Perform general reception tasks at WIC sites with respect to client confidentiality and customer service
  • Verify client eligibility for certification in the WIC program regarding income qualification, identity and residence
  • Provided education and information regarding participant’s rights and responsibilities, authorized signatures, shoppers, WIC foods, and using benefits at authorized vendors
  • Provide referrals to MassHealth, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Transitional Aid to Families of Dependent Children programs, and other community-based health/human service programs.
  • Provide notification for end of certification, missed benefits, and/or ineligibility to receive WIC benefits.
  • Oversee benefit issuance for prescribed food prescription including (re)issuing food/formula prescription benefits, captures participant authorized signatures for benefit issuance, and security of WIC card stock
  • Perform confidential file management tasks
  • Conduct quality assurance activities
  • All other duties as assigned

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED equivalent. One year experience in customer service field. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be sensitive to the needs of a culturally diverse population. Ability to travel off-island for training. Bilingual in Spanish.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Two years of direct client service in a health care, human or community service agency preferred.
