Seeking Full-Time Youth Mentor/Childcare Workers Sandhill Center, Los Lunas, NM

Sandhill Center is seeking Youth Mentor/Childcare Workers for our nationally-recognized residential treatment program for children between the ages of 8 and 13. Our residents are experiencing significant difficulties functioning in their current home, school or community due to the inability to regulate their emotional states. Through a clinically sophisticated, relational and nurturing approach we help develop the capacity for regulation and repair a child's trust in adult care and guidance. Our model of care emphasizes the importance of developing and maintaining healthy, trusting relationships with adult caregivers.

Youth Mentor/Childcare Workers manage the living environment of the children. They are responsible for:

• teaching living skills;
• supervising and organizing activities;
• ensuring a safe and clean living environment;
• participating in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings;
• documenting client progress;
• transporting clients;
• assisting the school program (Del Rio Academy) as needed.

The ideal candidate must enjoy activities with children such as hikes, gardening, and animal-assisted activities.

Sandhill Center is located about 30 minutes south of the Albuquerque airport in a rural New Mexico valley. Our charming southwestern ranch homes provide living space for as many as thirty-two boys and girls. The peaceful, rural setting offers an ideal environment in which to foster a child's physical, emotional and behavioral health. These classic New Mexican properties include horse stables, riding arena, basketball courts, a tennis court, and a swimming pool. Kids learn to care for the many animals (including horses) that are part of the program.

Requirements

Minimum requirements:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Experience in an attachment based clinical setting is welcome, but not critical, as we provide extensive training for new staff.
• Pre-employment Drug Screen required.
• Any offer of employment will be conditional upon passing background clearance check.

This is a full time position. Days will be determined upon hire.

Most of our residents can't adequately regulate their emotional or mental states because of early attachment disruptions or barriers, and therefore present with serious emotional and behavioral challenges. Our goal as treatment providers for children with attachment issues is to create an environment in which care and nurture are hard to resist. Our treatment model encourages the development of close personal relationships, while confronting behaviors that interfere with that closeness. We look to recent brain research to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies. We are located in Los Lunas, a rural community about 20 miles south of Albuquerque, NM.
