Job description
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Librarian is tasked with leading our Youth Services team in providing exceptional service to children, teens, and families at our Library. The Youth Services Librarian plans, develops, implements, and evaluates library programs, collections, services, and outreach to youth. Responsibilities
- Create a safe, welcoming, creative, vibrant, and dynamic space for children, parents, teachers, caregivers, and teens in the library setting.
- Provide reference and reader's advisory services to children, teens, and adults, including instruction of resources, online catalog use, on-line databases and responsible internet searching techniques.
- Create promotional and themed material to stimulate interest & participation in youth services, support collections, and programs.
- Train, supervise, delegate, and evaluate staff and volunteers as appropriate.
- Responsible for managing all aspects of collection development for children and teen materials. Ensure well-maintained and relevant materials are available. Select and order new library materials.
- Plans, organizes, leads, and supervises innovative and exciting library programs, workshops, and displays for Youth Services within and outside the library setting, including virtual.
- Collaborates with community organizations, schools, day cares, pre-schools, and caregivers in defining, creating, implementing, and promoting library services.
- Attends continuing education workshops, conferences, and webinars.
- Participates in the development of library policies as they relate to youth services. Participates in budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures; performs grant-writing activities for assigned specialized area.
Necessary Knowledge
- Knowledge of children's and young adult literature.
- Knowledge of bibliographic and reference tools and resources.
- Knowledge computer, internet and phone applications.
- Ability to create a good rapport with youth, teens and families.
- Bi-lingual desired but not required
Qualifications
- Master Library Service from an ALA accredited institution or degree expected within six (6) months of hire.
- Minimum of one (1) year professional experience working in youth services and/or programming.
- Good understanding of technology and social media.
- Experience working with schools and other community agencies a plus.

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
