Under the leadership of the Program Coordinator/ Director, the Activity Specialist will work collaboratively with other relevant staff to develop and implement appropriate activities for youth in youth services programs. Activity Specialist will be responsible for the safety and education of the participants assigned to their group as well as the development of meaningful activities and experiences. The Activity Specialist is a critical support role to the line staff, parents, and youth of the community and in developing meaningful relationships with participants.


Primary Job Responsibilities:


Program Outreach and Registration


  • Conduct participant outreach and registration.


  • Implement retention strategies as outlined by the Program Director/ Coordinator.


  • Build positive relationships with program participants.


Program Planning and Implementation


  • Ensure the respectful treatment of property, keeping the spaces used by the program clean, and restoring room set-up at conclusion of daily program activities.


  • Attend staff meetings to remain abreast of current information


  • Build positive relationships with program participants through special events celebrating participant accomplishments.


  • Ensure smooth transition to other program areas, i.e. computer, recreation.


  • Communicate necessary information to parents and participants, i.e. meetings, events, when the agency is closed.


  • Utilize conflict meditation techniques to quickly identify and seek to resolve conflicts and behavioral problems in consultation with the Program Coordinator.


  • Adhere to and enforce the proper code of conduct for purposes of growth and development.


  • Assist with the implementation of special events for youth.


  • Chaperone youth on field trips and other outside activities.


  • Provide support to the facilitators daily during workshop implementation and fill-in for staff in the implementation of program activities when needed.


  • Facilitate carefully planned activities during the social/ recreational hour in the computer lab and I or classroom for games, etc.


Contract Compliance


  • Assist in the collection of the participant's documentation during registration.


  • Collect hand out from each activity for the filing in participants files.


  • Compile/ Collect daily attendance records.


  • Conduct monthly follow-up calls to participants when necessary to maintain required average daily attendance within the program.


  • Work with the administrative assistant to keep filing of all paperwork up-to-date weekly.


Additional Responsibilities


  • Assist Program Coordinator with other tasks and programming as need arises.


  • Attend training as required.


  • Additional responsibilities assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 2 years' experience working with youth
  • Experience and/ willingness to work with diverse ethnic populations
  • Ability to work independently and creatively
  • Flexible
