Community Education Specialist at Community Partnership on Aging

This position is for a year of service, starting August 15th, 2022 and ending July 31th 2023. If you are looking to make a substantial difference in the community we'd love to have you on the team! This is a rewarding opportunity for a gap year, recent college graduates, and current college students. Veterans, older adults, and others seeking to make a difference in their community, or a change in career, are also encouraged to apply. You will gain hands on experience working with students, families, and older adults in Cleveland, Ohio as we foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and civic engagement.
Program Description:
Combat social isolation in older adults 55+ by delivering in person and remote programing. Sessions include individualized and/or group digital tech trainings (aimed at helping older adults overcome tech anxieties, build digital skills, and develop confidence), programing focused on health and wellness, art, gardening, book clubs, movies and much more!
Community Partnership on Aging serves several eastern suburbs, including Lyndhurst, Richmond Heights, South Euclid and Highland Heights. Most of their programing takes place in Community Centers.
Your Primary Role:
Visit each center during the week to provide opportunities for socialization. This includes, but is not limited to, chatting, board games, sending cards to those with extended absences, serious illnesses or to recognize special occasions.
Programs Offered:
- Transportation Services - Eligible riders receive free transportation to destinations that include local shopping, health care, other appointments and to programing offered by CPA (Community Partnership on Aging).
- Community Meals, Café Services and Frozen Meals - People over 60 can choose to dine at the community center or grab something to go from the Café. Delicious frozen meals are also available to help ensure that their nutritional needs are being met.
- Outreach Services - Licensed social workers provide in home visits to people 60 and over that could benefit from assistance regarding concerns affecting health and/or referrals for other services.
- Programming - A variety of exercise classes, wellness opportunities, educational, entertainment, cultural programs and social groups.
- Volunteerism - Opportunities to engage in meaning activities by volunteering or receiving volunteer services.
- Safe at Home Program - Provides access to minor modifications to homes to ensure safety. This includes things like grab bars, hand rails and durable medical equipment.
- Annual Programs and Events - Annual Luncheon and Movie Day, AARP Tax Assistance, Memory Screenings, and many more.
- Food Assistance Programs - Produce Plus Drive Thru Food Distribution, Senior Farmers Market and Commodity Supplemental Food Program.
Benefits
Living Allowance: This is a half time (part time) position that includes a living allowance of up to $8,736 (paid twice a month).
Education Award: Segal Education Award equivalent to the maximum amount of the Pell Grant upon the successful completion of service hours: $3,247.50 for part-time members. The education award may be used towards educational expenses and/or current/past/future student expenses.

Requirements
· Minimum of 18 years of age
· High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred
· Must be a US Citizen, National, or Legal Permanent Resident
· Must undergo and pass a criminal history background check
· Passion and perseverance for service

Pay: $759.65 per month
