The Wayland Rec Dept. seeks a Beach Director/Aquatic Director to manage all operations of our gorgeous Town Beach! This position is full-time and seasonal from mid-May to the end of August. Features a very flexible schedule and fun work environment.BEACH SHIFTS HOURS & DATES Schedule will outline the specific dates and hours director is expected to work which may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays between May 20 and August 20.

Shifts are scheduled between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm and up to 45 hours per week.Beach Director reports to Recreation Director, and is responsible for ensuring the safety of Town Beach patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Beach Director oversees a staff of 25+ including supervisors, lifeguards, swim instructors, snack bar staff and gate/membership staff. Other routine to complex administrative, supervisory, support, clerical and record keeping work relating to the successful daily operation of the Wayland Town Beach.Regular outdoor weather conditions, wind, sand and sun exposure, may be exposed to extreme heat or cold; works on uneven and/or wet slippery surfacesEXPERIENCEWaterfront Management: 1 year experienceLifeguarding experience preferredMust have considerable knowledge of all rules and regulations pertaining to safe waterfront operations to ensure safety of beach patrons at all times;Must have proven ability to lead employees, maintain discipline, work with the general public, and be able to maintain the respect and cooperation of associates and beach users.Ability to maintain discipline and command respect from the general publicAbility to function as part of a team with the beach and department staffRESPONSIBILITIESEvaluates and submits mid-season and end-season staff performance reviews.Prepares accurate weekly staff payroll.Participates in the hiring, on boarding, training and orientation of Town Beach StaffRecognize and take leadership role effectively in emergencies according to the Town Beachs EAP. Coordinates and oversees EAP drills to include police and fire departments.Participate in and ensure the execution of pre-season training, in-service training sessions and staff conditioning programs and routine staff meetings.Manage, assign and serve in lifeguard rotation as scheduled; may include beach monitoring, swim lessons, event staff, customer service, life-guarding, gate guard work, and daily routine grounds maintenance in absence of appropriate staff.Reviews and updates Beach Staff Manual to ensure it complies with current industry standards and best practices.Keep accurate beach records: Daily Log, Guest Receipts, Rental Receipts, Swim Class attendance records and receipts, sailing receipts, facility and restroom checks, etc.Follow all Cash Handling PoliciesEnsure the proper use and storage of all safety equipment, beach supplies and water crafts.Job Type: Full-time / SeasonalSalary: $27.00 to $34.00 /hour; Up to $15,000 per summerRequired experience: Supervisor: 1 yearRequired license or certification: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
