In order to enhance the success of underrepresented students in biomedical sciences, physician assistant studies, and medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine invites applications for a new faculty position. We seek individuals committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring, with interest and experience in teaching, particularly in biomedical sciences (e.g., Endo-Reproductive Physiology, Gastrointestinal Physiology, Renal Physiology, Cell and Molecular Biology etc.) or related areas at the PhD level. Experience with individual student guidance and mentoring is expected. Successful candidates will have a commitment to guiding students in mastering basic concepts and developing critical thinking skills. Experience with online or distance education, curriculum development, and/or comprehensive assessment is a plus.

This position will involve a significant role in teaching and mentoring graduate and medical students, in the first and second year of their degree program, post-baccalaureate students, and upper-level PhD students. Collaborative scholarly activity in educational innovation or related areas will be expected. Career development in educational leadership is an integral part of this position, with direct mentoring by experienced faculty. The individual will be responsible for extensive collaboration in the Graduate Education in Biomedical Sciences and MD1 curriculum supporting students in mastering key biological concepts. There are opportunities for collaboration with faculty in these areas as well as bioscience collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:

  • Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in biomedical science or related area; Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of two years of postdoctoral training in the biomedical sciences, at an accredited academic institution of higher learning
  • Teaching experience, and interest and commitment to teaching and teaching leadership.
  • Must have experience with curriculum design and a strong command of justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility concepts and theories.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage teaching and/or research activities.
  • Demonstrated professional effectiveness in institutional service
  • Demonstrated potential to organize and manage educational activities.
  • Evidence of continued improvement of professional competence in relevant field.
