Using Estimating Department standards and procedures, the Assistant Estimator assists with the preparation of conceptual, bid, negotiated project and change order estimates. The Assistant Estimator helps prepare phasing lists, including budget amounts, and may be requested to research and aid in the purchase of subcontracts and major materials packages. When requested, the Assistant Estimator may also perform assistant project management tasks. This is a full-time in-office position.


Duties and Responsibilities


Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the following:


Bid and Negotiated Project Estimates

  • Set up estimate formats, Issue Bid Information Request Form, Update Bid/Proposal Due Date Schedule
  • Create trade and subcontractor lists
  • Create and issue Invitation to Bid or invitation to submit pricing proposals
  • Develop scope of the work
  • Issue Requests for Information
  • Complete quantity take-offs
  • Price labor and materials on work self-performed by Petra
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids or proposals
  • Prepare draft estimate and review with supervisor
  • Participate in estimate review meeting to determine final bid strategy
  • Maintain files on all current estimates

Purchasing


  • If requested, purchase materials and buy-out subcontracts

Awarded Projects

  • In accordance with Company procedures, prepare a detailed and informed hand-off of the project to Project Management

Subcontractor Development

  • Cultivate and build relationships with subcontractors
  • Consistently update and maintain subcontractor file information
  • Participate as required in the subcontractor qualification process

Production Cost Analysis

  • Utilizing current CSI division classifications, enter data to produce an updated Production Cost Analysis of items of work performed by Company field personnel

Meetings

  • Attend project walk-throughs as required
  • Attend and participate in periodic project management meetings
  • Attend and participate in department meetings

Training

  • Participate in training to increase job knowledge and improve performance.

Requirements

  • At least one (1) year of construction industry experience, including experience in/exposure to the estimating function;
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics or Construction Science, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Knowledge of construction delivery methods, construction means and methods, and cost estimating;
  • Intermediate/Advanced software capabilities and skills including MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and industry-specific software, e.g. Procore.
