In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community Instructor of Basic Skills reports to the Basic Skills Department Chair and is responsible for providing effective instruction by implementing classroom activities that are conducive to learning and address varied learning styles. At all times, instructional personnel should be aware of the need to continue the personal and professional growth necessary in the performance of a faculty member’s duties.

Essential Duties
- Provide formal and informal assessment of each student to determine appropriate initial basic skills placement level.
- Develop and implement curriculum for basic skills students.
- Provide instruction that reflects varied learning styles to basic skills students.
- Select appropriate materials for the instructional environment.
- Maintain an adequate environment for instruction, including the physical environment and the supply of materials.
- Maintain organized student class records, which show student academic performance, progress and contact hours.
- Complete all reports and other documents related to the instruction of basic skills.
- Support FTE growth by developing and implementing innovative techniques to retain students until educational goals are attained, and recruit new students.
- Supervise timely, accurate reporting, collection and entry of student data, testing, and outcomes for Literacy Education Information System (LEIS)
- Supervise the maintenance of records and the preparation of required reports for auditing
- Supervise High School Equivalency (HSE) coordination and testing and the operation of HSE testing
- Engage in a program of professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Basic Skills Department Chair.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet
Physical Demands
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.88 per hour
