Business Support Specialists (BSS’s) work in diverse departments such as Payroll, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Collections, Customer Billing, Sales, Facilities,
and Operations. The primary duties of the Business Support Specialists (BSS’s) are to provide back office and administrative support. Duties are dependent on the department in which the BSS works in, and may include tasks such as reconciling of data, processing, completing financial transactions like internal credit card
expenditures, vendor payments, customer refunds, preparing and processing company-wide payroll, running customer billing statements, auditing customer billing information to ensure accuracy, processing of customer payments and collecting on delinquent customer accounts.

Example of duties

Accounts Payable
Performs below duties in addition to some of the BSS I and II duties:

Data entry of invoices, process payments, and print checks received from all departments across the Company to ensure timely and accurate payments to
vendors, suppliers, and refunds to customers.

Invoice and statement reconciliation, research, discrepancy resolution and follow-up, resolve Goods Received/Invoices Received issues, research
outstanding, un-cashed checks, support audits such as SOx, and other external audits.

Extract information from records and files or use reference materials to prepare documents and forms. Perform moderately complex mathematical calculations.

Verify and process payroll advances and employee expense reports.

Establish and maintain complex filing requiring classification and indexing of materials.

Balance and reconcile data as needed. Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies in, or inconsistent and missing, data to ensure accurate and complete information.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in the functional area you will be working in (e.g Treasury, Accounts Payable ) Must have demonstrated experience in all relevant functions in the functional area you will be working, including maintenance, preparation, data entry, and reconciliation, with knowledge of general accounting principles preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excel experience must include the creation of spreadsheets using basic Excel formulas. Demonstrated attention to detail.

Additional Job Requirements

BSS II and above are required to pass a typing test with a net score of 45 words per minute. Tests completed within the past 12 months from the date of application will be accepted. Internal applicants serving as BSS II’s and above are expected to have proven keyboarding and are not required to provide test results.
