Position Summary:
The cancer registry is required for CFVHS cancer program to maintain the status of Comprehensive Community Hospital Cancer Program. Under the supervision of the Cancer Registry Supervisor, the Cancer Registrar identifies, abstracts, and collects and codes demographic, treatment, staging and follow-up information of patients with a diagnosed malignancy, history of malignancy with current disease, benign CNS tumors, and certain pre-cancerous conditions. The Cancer Registrar retrieves, and analyzes registry data, performs quality control functions to assure accuracy and completeness of data. The Registrar is able to work independently and has the responsibility to maintain registry functions in the absence of the Cancer Registry Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
ICD-0 (Registry coding of histology), current ICD-9 coding and change over to and ICD-10 coding when implemented. Principles of anatomy and physiology. Medical terminology. Familiarity with ACoS-CoC/TJC accreditation requirements. Educated in FORDS (Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards) . Education of Multiple Primary and Histology Coding Rules. Education of Hematopoietic/Lymphoid Manual. AJCC Staging. SEER Summary Staging. FIGO Staging. Collaborative Stage. NC Central Cancer Registry Data collection requirements. Must be able to effectively communicate with physicians and other allied health care professionals. SEER Rx (Chemo, Hormone, BRM). Program knowledge of Metriq, Mosaiq, and Soarian. Familiarity for reporting updates CP3r and RQRS.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • Associate's Degree

Route A –Path 1: Successful completion of an Associate’s Degree in Cancer Registry Management (CRM) or Cancer Information Management (CIM) from an NCRA-accredited Program. Clinical Practicum: Successful completion of a 160-hour clinical practicum in a CTR-Staffed cancer registry. Route A-Path 2: Successful completion of a minimum of any Associate’s Degree in any field or the equivalent (60 college level credits) or successful completion of a Certificate in CRM or CIM from an NCRA-accredited Program. Clinical Practicum-Successful completion of a 160-hour clinical practicum in a CTR-staffed cancer registry. Route B: Successful completion of a minimum of any Associate’s Degree in any field or the equivalent (60 college level credits). Two semesters of Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. Cancer Registry Work Experience-1,950 hours (equal to one year full time) experience in the cancer registry field.

Other Information:
Job requires motor coordination in order to operate computer terminal. Work varies from sedentary to very mobile. Speech, sight and hearing required as incumbent must work independently
