Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. This position will collaborate with multiple teams across Tesla to characterize battery materials, determine degradation mechanisms, and optimize cell performance. The candidate will be responsible for multiple, high-impact projects which will involve implementing existing techniques, and analyzing data to rapidly characterize batteries. What You’ll Do
  • Be a key member of a cross functional team to optimize lithium-ion battery performance and lifetime in new and existing cells
  • Execute coin cell performance testing, coordinate and monitor full-cell testing, perform cell teardowns, document testing status and communicate timelines and results
  • Interpret results and propose testing to quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries.
What You’ll Bring
  • University degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, or equivalent major
  • A drive to execute testing and a passion for optimization.
  • Familiar with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
  • Familiar with chemical, electrochemical, and lifetime testing techniques for battery materials
  • Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
  • Some coding experience preferred (i.e. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)
