Building Inspector
Responsible For: Work involves responsibility for responding to complaints and enforcing ordinances pertaining to general housing codes. The employee performs routine inspections of existing buildings in an assigned area of the Village, and checks for compliance with adopted Village housing, zoning, environmental, and related codes.
Residency Requirement: Must live within the following boundaries within 12 months of hire: Those portions of the State of Illinois north of I-80 and east of State Route 51 and/or I-39.
Salary & Benefits: Effective January 1, 2023, the starting salary for this union, non-exempt position is $62,138. The top of the salary range is $92,283. Qualifications: Associate degree or equivalent, OR one year of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience; valid Illinois driver’s license; and ability to pass a police background examination. Overall knowledge of ICC property maintenance codes is preferred.

Civil Service Testing Process
Two-Year Eligibility List: The Streamwood Civil Service Commission will be preparing a two-year Eligibility list for the Code Enforcement Officer position. Only those people appearing on the eligibility list can be considered for the Code Enforcement Officer position for this two-year period.
Civil Service Written Examination: The Civil Service Code Enforcement Officer written examination will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022. Applicants will be notified of the testing place and time by email and U.S. Mail postcard. Applicants must present a picture ID to take the exam.
