Position Summary:
Met Council provides comprehensive social services to aid, sustain, and empower more than 305,000 poor and near-poor New Yorkers. For more than four decades, Met Council has helped seniors, adults and families living in poverty and near-poverty. Met Council provides immediate assistance to New Yorkers in crisis and creates pathways to self sufficiency. Our grassroots network of sixteen Jewish Community Councils help people in their neighborhoods—right where they live!
Met Council is looking for a Communications Director to head up our Social Media presence on all major platforms, handle marketing and update website content. You'll help tell our story of feeding and helping NYC’s most vulnerable in innovative and creative ways. We’re looking for someone with experience using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to help brand an organization. This position is for a person with a clear passion for helping people and making the world a better place.
Please note: This is currently a hybrid position.
Principal Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter publishing, and work with Facebook ads.
  • Work closely with graphic designers to help promote Met Council’s programs and services.
  • Update website content and post/archive relevant news stories.
  • You will be working closely with hired photographers and videographers to fully tell the stories of both the individuals and families that Met Council helps and our team of volunteers and staff making it happen.
  • Communicate and brainstorm with our team and engage with Met Council community across platforms. Prepare email blasts and explore how to tell our stories.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Competencies:

  • A self-motivated personality comfortable carving out new responsibilities
  • A strong understanding of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., and why content on those platforms became popular
  • Strong problem solving, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people & work effectively as part of a team
  • Multi-lingual and/or multi-cultural highly desirable

Skill and Education:

  • B.A. / B.S. degree in Communications, Public Affairs or related field preferred
  • Experience working with political entities, volunteers, the media and coalitions
  • 3 years experience running an organization’s Social Media accounts
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Basic video editing and Photoshop skills

Physical Demands:

  • Required Frequently: Walking, sitting, computer input
  • Required Occasionally: Carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)

Compensation: $70,000 - $100,000 per year
