Schedule: Full-time Monday – Friday 35 hours per a week; some evenings and/or weekends may be required

Work location: Queens Technical High School

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Community School Director at Queens Technical High School, the Community School Coordinator will work with school leadership and Sunnyside Community Services (SCS) staff to implement the core components of the community school strategy, which include attendance interventions, social and emotional based programs, parent engagement, college and career preparation, community outreach, and other expanded learning time activities.

Through integrated focus on academic services, socio- emotional support, and improved student learning, we can make our community stronger. This position will be part of our Youth and Family Services offered at SCS, which include a pre-kindergarten program, after-school programs for elementary and middle school students, high school job readiness, career readiness, and enrichment programming, as well as Adult and Immigrant Services.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

· Coordinate, plan, and facilitate workshops, events, and activities to engage students, parents, and the community in areas such as, time-management, test taking and studying skills, goal setting, health and wellness, etc.

· Liaise and collaborate with Queens Technical High School leadership, Parent Association, students, families, etc. to address and provide supports/resources to meet the needs of the school community

· Support in cultivation and stewardship of relationships with community-based partners and external social services

· Conduct informal needs assessments to identify student and parent needs

· Identify chronically absent teen youth to address the barriers that keep them from attending school and participating academically and socially

· Create and maintain relationships with identified students and their school counselors, families, etc. by conducting academic support sessions, hosting case conferences, and making referrals (to other Youth Futures programs, therapy, etc.)

· Collaborate with Youth Futures staff to plan Advisory Board Meetings and the Community School Forum

· Co-facilitate student groups

· Strategize with CSD to ensure all program and student records are collected and securely maintained, including but not limited to workshops, field trips, student attendance, and incentive forms

· Assist in recruitment, enrollment, and data entry in two databases for all participants

· Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Must be 18 years old or older

· Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least 2 years professional experience

· Bilingual Spanish speaking strongly preferred

· Experience working with teenage youth in an educational, advisement, and or recreational setting required

· Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings

· Approach work from a strength-based perspective

· Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with school administrators, teachers, and community partners

· Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently
