Job description
These positions will join the Heritage’s Crisis Call Center to provide support, engagement, and linkage to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis in Macon or DeWitt County.
Responsibilities Include:
- Telephone and virtual contact with individuals seeking mental health and substance use support and/or treatment via the crisis line
- Provide support and individual interventions to callers experiencing depression, anxiety, mood instability, and/or psychosis in a supportive and caring manner
- Providing support and individual interventions to individuals who are experiencing withdrawal from alcohol or other substances
- Provide support and skill-building to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis
- Provide support to individuals calling the crisis hotline by providing active listening, support, and referral and linkage when indicated
- Triages calls from referral sources and dispatches the mobile crisis response team
- Participate in a team-based approach to providing treatment including collaboration with case managers, counselors, nursing, clinical leaders, and other partners invested in the individual’s recovery
- Communicate and collaborate with providers to coordinate treatment including counselors, engagement staff, nursing, and clinical leaders
- Attend all required supervisions and trainings required within the role and position
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
- Ability to engage individuals when they are asking for help and decrease barriers to accessing support, resources, and/or treatment
- Knowledge of community resources including psychiatric, substance use, medical, domestic violence, shelters, and/or other community services
- Qualities include warm, compassionate, patient, calm in crisis situations, nonjudgmental, and ability to adapt/respond to each unique caller
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Open to continued growth and development
- Ability to navigate electronic health record
Education and Experience:
Ideal candidates will have education and experience working with individuals with a mental health and substance use diagnoses. Previous experience providing crisis and case management is highly desired. The position requires the minimum education, experience, and/or training:
- A bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, education, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, or a related human service field
- A recovery support specialist (CRSS, CPRS)
- A family partnership professional certificate (CFPP)
- A high school diploma or GED with 5 years’ supervised clinical experience in mental health or human services (Mental Health Professional or MHP)
