Minimum Staring Salary Range $5,508.00 - $8,783.00 per month

The minimum starting salary for this position is $5,508 per month (salary grade N). Exceptions for higher compensation may be considered based on education and experience in accordance with Department of Human Resources (DOHR) policy. The State of Tennessee offers a comprehensive benefits program to include health, dental, life, vision, and disability insurance programs, paid state holidays, and generous leave benefits. In addition, State of Tennessee employees are eligible for participation in the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS).
Who we are and what we do:
The mission of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is to operate safe and secure prisons and provide effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety. The department manages and operates or oversees 14 state prisons housing approximately 21,000 offenders. In addition, the department supervises some 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community correction and operates six Day Reporting/Community Resource Centers across the state. The department is fully accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).
How you make a difference in this role:
This position is responsible for supervision of the (FPC), Facilities, Planning and Construction unit, whose primary mission includes:
- Planning and delivery of the department's capital projects
- Facilities regulatory compliance oversight
- Technical assistance & coordination of facility assets
- Planning & coordination of department leased space needs
This requires collaboration with the Tennessee Department of General Services and various State oversight entities to ensure expectations are met appropriately with fulfilling State and department policies. The individual selected for this position will oversee and manage a diverse and specialized unit comprising ten (10) personnel and will assist the FPC Director in all aspects of the planning, budgeting, execution, and operational needs of department owned and leased facilities and their personnel located in all 95 counties of the state. The position is located at TDOC Central Office in downtown Nashville. Management of the capital project program and supervision of assigned project management staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Management of capital projects of complex difficulty in an Owner's Agent role through the full project lifecycle including initial planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout
- Oversight of the department's environmental, health and safety compliance programs and supervision of program staff
- Supervision of the unit in-house architectural/engineering design and consulting operations
- Assist the division director in the long-range planning, submittal, and approval of capital outlay requests, including their development with institution and central office leadership
- Maintains thorough knowledge of existing facilities, facility systems, department and State standards, policy and procedures
- Performs analysis of and planning for appropriate resolution of facility issues related to building systems and facility infrastructure
- Coordination and collaboration with facility maintenance personnel to ensure appropriate facility operational needs are met
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 5 years of relevant design/construction experience in one of the following: architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field. Equivalent design/construction industry experience will be considered on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum 3-years experience in a supervisory role in a related office setting
- Experience working with Microsoft Office, Adobe and construction project management systems
- Superior organization, problem solving and management skills
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
