Director of Environmental Services
Job description
The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for providing effective leadership of the laundy and housekeeping departments and coordinating the security function in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility.
Reports to: Nursing Home Administrator
Primary Job Duties:
- Oversees the ordering of supplies for laundry and housekeeping services. Reads current literature to maintain awareness of supplies and equipment. Conducts presentations for the Administrator regarding purchase proposals and other technical matters as requested.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises construction projects on the campus.
- In conjunction with each administrator, establishes policies and procedures for fire safety plan, disaster plan, and hazardous waste and hazardous material plans. Plans are to be updated in accordance with facility and governmental policy.
- Ensures that equipment and devices are free from defects and meet safety standards.
- Directs and administers laundry, housekeeping and maintenance, and security programs to be sure that the environment is in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition.
- Establishes policies for housekeeping, maintenance, security and laundry staff in accordance with the established policies and procedures.
- Plans work schedules and assigns hours in areas of work to insure adequate, supportive services for all areas of the facility.
- Conducts staff meetings and meets with the members of other departments to coordinate housekeeping and laundry activities with the activities of other departments. Keeps records of meetings with staff.
- Prepares annual budget for the department and ensures department expenditures are maintained within budgetary boundaries.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable certification and accreditation standards, and insures that the departments are operating in compliance with such standards.
- Ensures In-Service training and education for all housekeeping and laundry staff is developed and implemented in accordance with regulations.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and calmness throughout the department for residents, staff and visitors.
- Interviews, hires, evaluates, promotes, counsels, disciplines, terminates and makes other human resource decisions in accordance with facility human resources policies and procedures.
- Ensures that maintenance, housekeeping and laundry staff performs their duties in a safe manner, and follows established isolation, infection control, and universal precautions procedures as instructed.
- Interviews, selects and evaluates personnel. Is responsible for training and supervision.
- Keeps privileged information about residents confidential according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Upholds Bedrockcare's Code of Conduct and follows Corporate Compliance guidelines.
- All other duties as assigned by the Nursing Home Administrator
- Completes annual compliance and HIPAA training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the Code of Compliance in the performance of their duties.
- Adheres to the Organizations Policies and Procedures regarding the Compliance Program of the organization and is timely in reporting any possible concerns.
- Follows all local, state and federal regulations as they pertain to their position.
- Adheres to the Organization’s Policies and Procedures covering Privacy and Security in Compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Education and Experience Requirements:
- Previous experience in maintenance, housekeeping and laundry management in a long term care or senior housing facility required.
- Technical training in general systems maintenance preferred.
- Must have educational abilities needed to prepare and monitor department budgets.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to plan and organize schedules to accomplish optimal level of tasks during a workday.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with staff, residents, and visitors.
- Must maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Must be required to have a valid state drivers license.
- May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the workday.
- Must attend required training and education sessions by the facility.
Working Conditions:
- May be exposed to infectious waste and disease (including HBV, HIV and COVID 19).
- Will be exposed to outside elements including extreme heat and cold.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves throughout the facility and grounds during working hours.
- May be required to work after regular work hours, and holidays and weekends in emergency situations.
- May be required to work on shifts other than the one initially hired for.
