Location: WGAESF Headquarters – Glenview, IL. May consider a hybrid office schedule for some candidates.
Evans Scholars Foundation Overview
Established by famed amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans, Jr., the program provides full housing and tuition scholarships to deserving caddies across the country. Currently, 1,100 caddies are attending college on scholarship; there are 11,815 Evans Alumni. More information is available at wgaesf.org.
Position Description
The Director, Student Success helps to support the current Evans Scholars who are enrolled at 22 partner universities across the country and is integral to the operations of the WGA/ESF Education Team. This opportunity will require a high level of project management and collaboration across the WGA/ESF organization.
The WGA/ESF Education team currently has a regional model for oversight of all efforts at the Scholarship Houses and with students. The individual in this role would be assigned to help support students and advisors at 5-7 chapters in the program and work closely with team members assigned to work with other chapters.
Job Responsibilities
· Regular meetings and travel to visit Evans Scholars on campus and conduct meetings or events with individual students, advisors, and large groups. Liaise with Executive Boards, Advisors, and university officials. This will include a combination of virtual visits and in-person visits.
- Most in-person visits and travel would occur during the school year (September – May). Education team members typically visit each assigned chapter two times per term. Travel is expected to be about 25% of the time. On occasion, more frequent in-person visits may be necessary.
· Support Education Team goals of graduation rate and academic success
· Help counsel and provide resources to Scholars on personal and social struggles they may encounter including mental wellness, physical well-being, behavior, communal living etc. Ability to communicate with Advisors, Directors, University officials and parents as necessary.
· Lead staff person for recruitment, training and support of the Graduate Resident Advisors program. Work in conjunction with fellow team members to provide support for this group throughout the school year.
· New Scholar Programming – Work closely with the Education team to establish and conduct programming to assist with the transition from high school to college for the new students. This would include both virtual and in-person programming for New Scholars and their parents.
· Provides support to special ES initiatives; notably Career Services and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This includes programming, committee support, data management, and effective communication.
· Assist with efforts to establish and open new scholarship houses, as assigned
· Responsible for administrative support services for the Scholarship Department as needed – including student updates, grades, and annual reports.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Requirements: Master’s degree or equivalent experience. Experience working with students in an advisory role.
Qualified candidates will have:
· Self-motivated, positive personality. Ability to initiate and complete projects independently and prioritize work appropriately. Must possess a positive and service-centered attitude.
· Strong desire to work with students and support their needs including academic and social support.
· Ability to work as a strong collaborator. Understand organization dynamics and the team approach, as well how the departments work separately and together. Able to manage cross-departmental projects.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills. Comfortable with public speaking and one-on-one student support.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; familiarity with various academic data management software
· Ability to travel regionally and nationally to facilitate regular campus visits, events and conferences, and Headquarters meetings. Travel is about 25%.
· Willing to occasionally work nights and weekends to meet with students, conduct training programs, and manage urgent situations.
