Description: Please note: while this is a WFH/remote position, it is required that the Education & Outreach Specialist reside in the northern part of the state of Indiana.
The Education & Outreach Specialist is responsible for training and educating stakeholders on “811 Before You Dig” processes, promoting underground utility damage prevention, and fulfilling the Indiana 811 mission. This person will proactively partner with excavators/contractors, utility owners/operators, public safety agencies, and the general public to maximize public safety, minimize underground utility damage, reduce injuries and fatalities, protect the environment, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. This position is based on a flexible schedule that requires travel within the geographical area of responsibility which may include overnight stays and availability outside of working hours, including weekends. Willingness, ability, and the discipline to work from home is required.
The Education & Outreach Specialist is responsible and accountable for:
- Educating and training stakeholders on the use of the Indiana 811 one-call system by making presentations to small and large audiences, both virtually and in-person
- Building positive impactful relationships with excavators, utility owner/operators, public safety agencies, and government officials; identifying, recruiting, and training excavators and operators who are not currently Indiana 811 members
- Participating in trade shows, conferences, association, and safety meetings to promote the Indiana 811 mission and to increase industry knowledge
- Managing members and external stakeholders in the event of concerns or challenges with the 811 Call Center
- Staying informed and updated on all relevant Indiana and federal regulations
- Preparing and submitting timely reports on accomplishments, activities, expenses, and pending items of interest
- Creating content in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, multimedia, audio, video, classroom, marketing publications, news releases, newsletter, website, magazine, etc.
- Seek opportunities to promote the Indiana 811 message within your geographical community
- Proactive outreach to members via email and phone contacts and in-person when required
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel to events, trainings, and various locations as needed
- Maintaining a valid driver's license and insurance, reliable transportation, and home internet service capable of performing required administrative functions
Requirements: Required Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Demonstrated public speaking experience required
- Strong computer knowledge, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube strategies, post scheduling, marketing, and reporting tools preferred
- Utility damage prevention experience is a plus

Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
